(updated 09/03/2022). Do not reduce this to political differences. Political differences are different approaches to addressing the same problem. Extremist rhetoric, bigotry & racism are morality differences with deep feelings of fear/anger/betrayal. Too many people are dismissing morality differences as political differences. Stop being blind to hateful activity because they are “good people” and help them become better people! Don’t dismiss their behavior because you may not like me or how I present information.

SOCIAL MEDIA: The first four steps

3. Unfollow any “liked” pages which post extremist rhetoric. Go to About on FB profile and after photos, friends & check-ins, “select all pages”. For example: Utah Patriots, Celeste Meyeres Utah Conservative
4. block the most offensive/prolific or radicalized featured at Meet Your Neighbors: Red Level. If you block them you won’t forget and accept a friend request from them later. Consider simply unfriending others on Hatewatch

Understand the Emotions & Beliefs of the Far-right in Kanab

Research shows a common deep sense of betrayal, anger and economic insecurity among the new right activists with violence at the core (https://cpost.uchicago.edu/research/domestic_extremism/). There is a fear of someone taking what is theirs (perceived as socialism/communism) and of being replaced (becoming the minority) https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/06/us/politics/capitol-riot-study.html Please don’t dismiss this fear because THE FEAR IS REAL TO THE PERSON AND HAS CONSEQUENCES FOR EVERYONE even if viewed as irrational, without evidence by others. These are the common emotions I’ve seen from Kanab area residents repeated in social media posts:

• Fear of socialism and/or communism overtaking USA resulting in loss of freedom, property, business, guns.
• Fear/Anger that personal taxes go to fund other countries before funding US issues
• Anger that they worked their whole lives just for someone, especially migrants, to take free medical, education, housing
• Fear that Satan is at work through the left and the media to destroy USA, including secret combinations and forced re-education of Trump supporters
• Fear that Covid safety is Democrat plot to overthrow government
• Fear of refugees and immigrants: crime, cost, job loss, drugs
• Betrayed by Republican politicians caving to Democrats and the media so it is time to fight for yourself and your family
• A Calling that it is up to the people to take back their country
• End of times

Basically—-The left, controlled by foreign agents including China and controlling main stream media , planned the pandemic, launched the Black Lives Matter movement to create civil unrest on top of authoritarian lockdowns to overthrow the US government and install communism or socialism (most are using those interchangeably). They use Antifa as the militant arm of BLM and Democratic Party. The left came after statues and canceling racist things to change history and make white males forever the enemy of every minority. Even the Capitol Insurrection was staged by the left. Fauci is in with others to profit on the vaccine which is able to splice out a “god gene”. A civil war is what they see at hand.

The categories which people fall in regards to recognizing SYSTEMIC RACISM and WHITE PRIVILEGE are the 3 Ds: Deny—-Distance—-Dismantle. https://www.apa.org/research/action/speaking-of-psychology/white-privilege

The stages of systemic racism in the USA are the 3 Ss: Slavery—Segregation—Slammer (resource: Michelle Galaria).

• Chattel Slavery was dismantled nearly 200 years ago but some people are still in the Distance category today.
• Segregation was dismantled just over 50 years ago, however, there still exists nationwide inequalities in income, housing, healthcare, education, voting, infrastructure and access because of the systems put in place & still operating and the personal affects on the victims of living through Jim Crowe America and the affects on their offspring. Many in Kanab deny the relevance of segregation for today, deny systemic racism or distance themselves by blaming the victim (didn’t work hard enough). Most Americans are working today to dismantle the lingering, systemic effects of segregation.
• The Slammer, mass incarceration, is today’s segregation and slavery combined, disproportionately impacting minorities. The lengths some people will go to deny this by dehumanizing and/or blaming victims of police brutality or poor socioeconomic status and fighting social justice & police brutality reform became clear in 2020-2021. The global movement to dismantle the causes leading to the Slammer and failures of support afterward revealed that most Americans and most of the World are now dismantling !

STALKING AWARENESS

All it takes for a civil stalking injunction in Utah:

1. Two acts / “course of conduct”
2. the judge convinced that a reasonable person (of similar experience in the same situation) would feel fear for safety or emotional stress
3. the judge convinced that you should have known that a reasonable person (of similar experience in the same situation) would feel fear for safety or emotional stress

When you intervene do not harass, threaten, or do anything repeatedly that is unwanted. Law enforcement recommends civil stalking injunctions when the course of conduct does not meet criminal code. In Kane County Courts, public officials on two separate occasions have been granted civil stalking injunctions in what appears to be for the purpose of silencing the opposition, retaliation, or keeping information from spreading (gag-order). This is not what the spirit of the law is for and it is not worth the risk to intervene in these cases. Both were issued by Judge Bagley and the Utah Appeals Court vacated the injunction granted to Mike Noel for insufficient evidence by Kane County Court.
