Meet the Kanab Patriots: last names A,B, C

(updated 12/28/2022). One hundred and seventy five (175) area residents engage with Kanab Patriots FB page promoting hate, bigotry, disinformation, personal attacks, business attacks, extremism, war cries, carry weapons against neighbors, public health disregard and defense of criminal behavior including embracing locals who went to DC January 6th to attack democracy. Forty (40) Kanab Patriots are featured in this post with the last names A-C.

This post features the 40 Kanab Patriots with the last names A-C. All Kanab Patriots are featured in the KURW “Patriot Series” by last names and can be seen here: D-F, G-J, K, L-M, N-P Q-T and U-Z.

For evidence on the founders, Jeff Schwilk & Tana Kou, see section 4 of 4 of this KURW post

  • Some of the K-Patriots do not meet the criteria for Hatewatch by KURW and some engage in extremism & bigotry at such depth and breadth that their content is designated Red Level. See KURW Meet Your Neighbors: Red Level.
  • Many continue to follow Kanab Patriots after the founders were exposed for their extremist activity in California before moving to Kanab (see section 4 below).

This KURW post includes four sections

  1. A list of area residents who engage with Kanab Patriots (last names A-C)
  2. A Google Presentation of slides of evidence for each of the 40 people listed
  3. Links to other posts related to Kanab Patriots

4/5: Google Presentation of the Founders of Kanab Patriots

Co-founders Jeff Schwilk & Tana Kou moved to Kanab from Southern California in 2018. Jeff had some legal battles with hate groups he had founded there and already had other FB extremists pages before starting Kanabians for Slow, Sensible Growth and Kanab Conservative Activism now Kanab Patriots. His California activity was covered extensively by Southern Poverty Law Center (non-profit organization tracking hate groups) from 2007-2018 before moving to Kanab.

5 of 5: How the evidence is gathered and presented

The evidence is gathered from public posts on social media, public engagement at rallies/events, and legal information that is accessible to the public. In other words, no private information is used and evidence IS SIMPLY COPIED from the source posting the public evidence.

The evidence is presented in a Google Slideshow format categorized by topic instead of a collection of the screenshots of the evidence for three reasons (1) the categorized format reveals the magnitude of the hate for given topics so that people can better address that individual for targeted intervention (2) the screenshot format of the post can lead to an amplification of hate by others simply sharing that post and (3) the Google Presentation format allows for links to other sources while a screenshot does not.

Here are examples of how the summarized version on Google Slideshows (left side of image) are based directly from the screenshots of evidence (right side of image). In both examples the January 6th attack on the US Capitol is supported by Kanab Mayor CJ Johnson (top image) and Kanab Chief of Police Tom Cram (bottom image).

I resided in the Kanab, Utah area from 2009 throughout 2020. I created KURW following the January 6, 2021 attempt by domestic extremists to stop the certification of the election which nearly a dozen Kanab area residents participated and were encouraged by the Kanab City Police Chief & fellow law enforcement. I resided most of my life in rural America and was raised in a large, far-right family. Studies show new trends in extremist characteristics, feelings of fear/anger/betrayal, an increase in social media recruitment and incitement, and radicalization as quickly as six months. Concerned residents of the area had collected evidence of public activity beginning with the six months of weekly Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter and MAGA events in Kanab. That documentation, public posts on social media, contribution from community members and outside organizations were compiled to create KURW Hatewatch because I feel like that is the best way that I can address the call for awareness to the threat of extremism.
