Kane County Sheriff’s Office

(Updated 11/17/2024). Every effort should be made to expel bigots and extremists from law enforcement. In the March 13, 2021 episode of PBS Newshour, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin discussed his focus of exposing extremism in the military because the actions of a few can have such extensive affects on the greater population (around minute 14  ) .

Likewise, the same should be done in law enforcement especially given that

  • 2006: the FBI alerted us to the threat of white nationalists and skinheads infiltrating police in order to disrupt investigations against fellow members and recruit other supremacists in the 2006 bulletin.
  • 2016: Terrace Cunningham, the  head of the International Association of Police Chiefs (IAPC), “While we obviously cannot change the past, it is clear that we must change the future.  For our part, the first step is for law enforcement and the IACP to acknowledge and apologize for the actions of the past and the role that our profession has played in society’s historical mistreatment of communities of color.” (Full speech and interview)
  • 2017: the FBI Joint Intelligence Bulletin, White Supremacist Extremism Poses Persistent Threat of Lethal violence reported that the white supremacist and anti-government militia groups the domestic terrorism agents investigate often have “active links” to law enforcement
  • 2020: article “Hidden in Plain Sight: Racism, White Supremacy and Far-right Militancy in Law Enforcement,” Michael German explains “While it is widely acknowledged that racist officers subsist within police departments around the country, federal, state, and local governments are doing far too little to proactively identify them, report their behavior to prosecutors who might unwittingly rely on their testimony in criminal cases, or protect the diverse communities they are sworn to serve.”

However, in 2020 when the Salt Lake Tribune published a Bagley Cartoon depicting the long-known problem, the Utah Sheriffs’ Association revealed their denial and misunderstanding in the September 2, 2020 press release below.

KCSO reaction to Bagley cartoon posted on their FB page

Given KCSO response to exposure and the response “wait, you think there are white supremacists in Kanab?”, by Mayor Houston (current mayor is Colten Johnson, 2022), I hope, but don’t expect, local officials will “take the first step” as described by Terrance Cunningham, IAPC, above.

Some Kanab residents get it and one asks

“What are we to think about the Sheriff’s Office when they turn a blind eye to this?”

From local public FB group Say It Kanab, Free Speech for All!

October 2021, PBS Frontline “Shots Fired” series examines the record number of police shootings in Utah, use of force & training.

However hopeful, a 2022 guilty plea & conviction of Christopher Aziz for a 2013 rape revealed that he was a correction officer for Kane County Sheriffs Office when the rape occurred and for five years following. His supervisors included Dan Watson and John Maddux as jail commanders (see sections below) who both engage in prolific public extremism & bigotry. Additionally, there was no coverage or public announcement of either of the two felony convictions of local law enforcement, but they do announce & cover misdemeanors & infractions by civilians. #1 of 10: TRACY GLOVER KCSO Sheriff

Tracy Glover 2021

Evidence of extremism/bigotry from Sheriff Glover can be viewed by clicking through the slideshow of screenshots following the explanation of the email below.

EMAIL: Glover did respond in 2022 that he is a member of Utah Sheriff’s Association, UTSA, by choice and is not affiliated with the extremist organization Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officer Association, CSPOA. This inquiry arose from the overlap of declarations by UTSA, CSPOA and actions by Glover. The following quote describes the influence of CSPOA:

“CSPOA tries to convince county sheriffs that they are the highest law enforcement authority in the country and have the power to decide which laws are constitutional, promoting the misconception that the nation’s sheriffs have the power to pick and choose what laws will, or will not, be enforced in their counties. CSPOA often villainizes the federal government and dismisses the authority of the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Comparing the above quote to Glover’s actions (see context paragraph below the slideshow of evidence) and his response about federal authority in the email (image below quote). “…the federal government holds and manages federal land under proprietary interest in the state of Utah. Other than military installations, as far as I know, there is no exclusive or concurrent federal jurisdiction in our state. Without the state of Utah ceding a level of jurisdiction to the federal government, Sheriff’s across Utah have primary jurisdiction across areas of public land as well as privately held lands in teh unincorporated areas of their respective counties.”

SLIDESHOW: Toggle through the screenshots below for evidence of extremism/bigotry shared publicly by Kane County Sheriff Tracy Glover. It includes dismissal of exposed white supremacy problem in law enforcement, issuing erroneous protest ban on sidewalks 2020, praising Back the Blue FB frames June 2020, stating “divinely inspired Constitution”, and advocating for 2A Sanctuary status 2021. A 2A Ordinance for Kane County was pushed by local extremist groups Kanab Patriots (by Jeff Schwilk, veteran & founder of CA hate groups San Diegans for Secure Borders & leader San Diego Minutemen) & Kane County Gun Rights. ***no indication that Sheriff Glover was influenced by these groups**. Shortly after the ordinance, in fact, Kane County Commissioner Calls Kanab Patriots a Hate Group, But They Are Not the Fringe.

Context for the slideshow of evidence above: Sheriff Glover explained the delay in 2A action 2021 due to his travel schedule working with organizations addressing this nationwide problem: Western States Sheriffs’ Association (worked on Amicus Brief against New York’s Gun Control for off-property possession) , National Sheriffs’ Association & Utah Sheriffs’ Association (helped draft the 06/2021 release) October 2021. Public comments were made by Shawna Cox ( one of several Insurrectionists from Kanab Area, regional representative for Bundy’s People’s Rights Network & Committee of Safety, Malheur National Wildlife takeover), Lois & Steve Corson (one of several Insurrectionists from Kanab Area, 89/89A ALM/MAGA/SaveAmerica Rallies, Patriot Prayer & III% flag on float in July 4th Parade), Colleen Huston (protested Sheriff Glover’s “illegal arrest” of Shawn Cox 2021, Kanab’s Committee of Safety with Corson, Cox & Vetere).

In regards to Back the Blue. PBS Frontline “Shots Fired” series examines the record number of police shootings in Utah, use of force & training. Rural Utah was not isolated from activism and the reactions to marches for George Floyd and Police Reform. Those reactions were masked as Back the Blue counter protests (Kanab 06/2021), Back the Blue yard signs, Back the Blue FB frames & posts and Back the Blue displays at businesses.

#2 of 10: ALAN ALLDREDGE KCSO Lieutenant

Rinda & Alan Alldredge 2020

Lt. Alldredge owns Big Al’s Burgers at The Junction and serves on the Covid Task Force. The jail had an outbreak and at Big Al’s his wife, Rinda Alldredge, publicly opposed masks and shared that Big Al’s does not follow state mandates or local health ordinances. Rinda and son Russell were exposed in this previous post. Although Lt. Alldredge does not publicly engage, his family does as see in the Google Slideshow below

# 3 & 4 of 10: Jail Commanders Dan Watson (retired 2021) & Tyrell Roundy

Dan Watson
Lorna Watson, deceased

Dan is a US Veteran and was the Jail Commander for Kane County Sheriff’s Office until 2021. In retirement he owns Watson & Associates Truth Verification Consultants. Dan’s widow, Lorna Watson, worked at Kanab Police Department. The current jail commander is Tyrell Roundy.

Dan was featured in the January 14, 2020 Left Coast Right Watch (LCRW) article “Racist Utah Cop Has Long History of Teaching Alphabet Agencies” which details his history of public racist comments and the negligence of his fellow officers to let it go “unnoticed”. In addition to posts exposed by LCRW, the slideshow below exposes Dan’s posts in the local FB group & platform for hate, Kanab/Fredonia Rant & Rave which he uses to espouse his bigotry and demean/ridicule those supporting social justice & police reform.

  • Diminishes Social Justice Organizations as “Anti anything white”
  • Don’t blame whites for sins of all slavery, Africans mainly and freed black slaves
  • BLM promotes the very thing killing blacks, Democrats
  • Ridicules peaceful protesters, voices of support and voices of MAGA opposition
  • Proud Boys not a hate organization a “fed up with this shit” org.
  • posts of bigotry on social media following the murder of George Floyd

The current jail commander, Tyrell Roundy, shares with former commander Dan Watson & Deputy Cole Brown (next sections) a reverence for relics of the Confederacy and with Sheriff Glover encouraging Back the Blue public profiles in reaction to the public outcry for police reform following the murder of George Floyd by convicted officer Derek Chauvin. There is no other evidence for Roundy so he is not included on Hatewatch by KURW.

#5 & 6 of 10: DEPUTIES Mark “Cole” Brown (retired 2023) & Blake Doss

Toggle through the 20 screenshots below to see public posts of extremism/bigotry by Mark “Cole” Brown, retired KCSO deputy including: calls to violate Geneva Convention, desire for lawful protesters to leave the USA (Kaepernick & 2020 BLM supporters), minimizing the global reaction to the murder of George Floyd by then Officer Derek Chauvin as “a small percentage of people stirring the pot in hopes of destroying this great country”, disdain of Nike for endorsing Colin Kaepernick following his peaceful protest of kneeling during national anthem, amplifying “good guy with a gun” argument, reverence for relics of the Confederacy, history is not yours to erase, hanging politicians, disgruntled Republican profile. He also defends progressives running for local office based on their status as US Marine and not transferring federal lands to the state of Utah.

Joining retired deputy Cole Brown in his desire to violate the Geneva Conventions is K9 Deputy Blake Doss. The Geneva Conventions are international humanitarian treaties that protect people during war who do not take part in the fighting (civilians, medics, aid workers) and those who can no longer fight (wounded, sick and shipwrecked troops, prisoners of war). There is no more evidence of public bigotry/extremism by Blake Doss so he is not on Hatewatch by KURW.

#7 of 10: MARSON KELLER KCSO Corrections, Retired 2020

Marson Keller is a US Veteran and retired Corrections Officer for Kane County Sheriff’s Office. Keller is an ambassador for Plexus Worldwide Nutrition. Marson encourages extremism & bigotry publicly posted by fellow veterans (Jeff Schwilk of Kanab Patriots, Jim Baker, Bob Riding and John Maddux former Kane County Jail Commander).

The slideshow below is a summary of Keller’s public extremism & bigotry on Facebook:

I resided in the Kanab, Utah area from 2009 throughout 2020. I created KURW following the January 6, 2021 attempt by domestic extremists to stop the certification of the election which nearly a dozen Kanab area residents participated and were encouraged by the Kanab City Police Chief & fellow law enforcement. I resided most of my life in rural America and was raised in a large, far-right family. Studies show new trends in extremist characteristics, feelings of fear/anger/betrayal, an increase in social media recruitment and incitement, and radicalization as quickly as six months. Concerned residents of the area had collected evidence of public activity beginning with the six months of weekly Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter and MAGA events in Kanab. That documentation, public posts on social media, contribution from community members and outside organizations were compiled to create KURW Hatewatch because I feel like that is the best way that I can address the call for awareness to the threat of extremism.
